This song and video has been stuck in my head all week and I can’t decide what I think of Lana del Rey! I mean, I obviously like this song but her SNL flop and bad live reviews are making my hipster-wannabe side uneasy. What do you think?



Sushi date

Tonight we tried a new sushi place that I fell in love with. It looked packed when we drove by looking for a parking spot, and we almost just turned around to go back to our usual place. I’m so glad we didn’t! We were offered to sit in the their new “floor room” as our waitress called it. We took our shoes off and crawled into this small room

Winter Fancy Food Show

This past weekend I was lucky to tag along with my summer employer, Hippie Chow Natural Foods, to visit San Francisco for the international Fancy Food Show. This show invites small and large gourmet food companies to come together to network and expand their businesses. For me, this meant I was able to try hundreds (literally hundreds) of samples and talk to some intense foodies. I met the owners of some of my favorite food companies, such as Jeni from Jeni’s Ice Cream and the Justin Nut Butter Crew. I tried cheeses from France, hummus chips (so good!), truffle popcorn, bacon jelly, lots of pour over coffee and sea salt chocolate. I was able to explore some of San Fran as well on my down time. We ventured over to the Ferry Building and ate at Gott’s Roadside Diner, Boudin Bakery at the Fisherman’s Wharf, croissants at Tartine Bakery and Blue Bottle Coffee.

I could get used to trips centered around food 😉

Foodies Unite!

I am in a foodie paradise and I don’t want it to end! A full recap to follow, I am headed back to the Midwest in the morning. Highlight of the day was espresso and breakfast at Blue Bottle Coffee this morning.


San Fran here I come

I will be traveling to the west coast this weekend for the international Fancy Food Show in San Francisco, CA. I will be working for my employer, Hippie Chow, who will have a booth at the show. I can’t wait to spend a foodie filled trip and meet some awesome culinary entrepreneurs. A few places I also hope to hit up include the famous Tartine Bakery, Blue Bottle Coffee, and The Slanted Door. Yummy food in my future!

No longer a virgin…

… a Frye virgin that is! I have been drooling over Frye boots for the past few years, enough to alert the sales associates as Nordstrom to keep an extra eye on me as I contemplate stealing them or robbing a bank to afford them. Kidding of course! Well, I have officially broken the ice with a new pair of Frye carson oxfords. I am in love! These will normally cost you $178 but I scored a pair at the Rack that brought them down to $69! Hollaaaa (I think I may have actually said that when I saw them and scared a little girl, but that’s beside the point.) I am on a low wardrobe budget and would definitely not consider myself to be a fashionista, rather someone who values well made items. The verdict? LOVE THEM. Seriously, I am already searching like crazy for Frye sales on the internet to get another pair. They look great with jeans, cords, trousers, tights + skirts, and dresses.

Well done, Frye, well done.

a lazy weekend deserves a post

I didn’t necessarily grab life by the horn this weekend, but it was still a good weekend. I ate, I drank, and watched The Bourne Identity for what might be the 1,000th time. I can’t get enough of Jason Bourne. Let’s just say if I get kidnapped by a hot assasin, I would be perfectly content. Anyways, here are some iPhone pics of the weekend.

Clear glasses

There is something about clear glasses for lattes that make me swoon. I mean, just look at this beauty. How could you resist?

This was my regular order when I lived in Geneva, Switzerland for 5 months. I can’t speak french very well, despite 10+ years of study, but those baristas saved me the embarrassment by memorizing my order. Merci Beaucoup! The milk in Switzerland is so creamy and rich, I swear it is just creamer in a milk carton. At first I was a little apprehensive about this, but eventually learned to embrace dairy. If you ever get to go to Switzerland (the most underrated country in my opinion) try every piece of dairy you can get your hands on – cheese, milk, yogurt, ice cream – trust me, you will not regret it!
